Weekend promises lots of live music
SUSSEX COUNTY. The Stanhope House offers contemporary jazz and alt-rock, while Jay and the Americans will perform at the Newton Theatre.
Gear up for a full weekend of fun in Sussex County.
Starting Friday, June 23, Chuck Fantasia of the Fantasia Project will be at the Lafayette House, 75 Route 15, from 6 to 9 pm.
At McQ’s Pub at Lake Lenape, 165 Andover Sparta Road, Newton, Barry McArdle, known as the one-man band, will perform starting at 6 p.m.
Local favorite and live music hangout Krough’s, 23 White Deer Plaza, Sparta, will host Black Radish. From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m, they will play songs from Chuck Berry, Bob Marley, Taj Mahal, Sinatra and more, joined by bassist Derek Sturtevant from Earthman Farm Band.
Also, at 6:30 p.m. at the Alibi Beach Bar and Grill, 172 Lackawanna Drive, Stanhope, singer-songwriter James Vilade will perform.
At the Stanhope House, 45 Main St., New York Blues Hall of Famer David Fields will present a night of contemporary jazz featuring guitarist Burr Johnson and opened by the Parker Street Trio. Tickets may be purchased in advance on the venue’s website at https://the-stanhope-house.ticketleap.com/davefieldsjazz/; they will be $15 at the door, which opens at 7 p.m.
Headlining at the Newton Theatre, 234 Spring St., on Friday is singer-songwriter Aimee Mann. She is a Grammy Award-winning artist who has written more than 12 solo albums.
Named one of NPR’s 10 greatest living songwriters in 2006, Mann will delight you with her melodies and captivate you with her songwriting. Doors open at 7 p.m.; the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $59 and can be bought online at skypac.org
On Saturday, June 24, start your morning at the Sparta Farmers Market, 89 S. Sparta Ave., with singer-songwriter Maribyrd at 10 a.m.
From 6 to 9 p.m, Mauro Melleno will be singing and playing keys at the Lafayette House.
Chris Donney will take the stage at McQ’s Pub at Lake Lenape, playing acoustic hits from the 1970s to today from 6 p.m.
O’Reilly’s Pub & Grill, 271 Spring St., Newton, has your classic rock needs covered with Gerry Arias from 9 p.m. to midnight.
If you’re looking for a nostalgic night of alt-rock, head to the Stanhope House with the Nimrods (a Green Day cover band), Morning Glory (an Oasis cover band) and Remedy.
Budding artist Jayce Kenny will perform at the Alibi.
Also on Saturday, at the Newton Theatre, Billboard chart-toppers Jay and the Americans will perform their hits, such as “This Magic Moment,” “Come a Little Bit Closer” and “Some Enchanted Evening.”
This long-lasting band has been together since 1961 and even opened for the Beatles. Come out for a night of sing-alongs starting at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $39 and may be bought online at skypac.org
The next night, Sunday, June 25, the theater will feature the music of Dave Mason. He played on many records and collaborated with artists, such as the Rolling Stones, George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson and Eric Clapton. He also has his own solo music featuring three gold albums.
At Krogh’s on Sunday night, you can listen to Rob Chaseman playing rooftop jazz from 3 to 6 p.m.
And at the Alibi, you can wind down with the solo acoustic tunes of Cory Pensa at 4 p.m.
