Stephen M. Macko
Stephen M. Macko, 92, passed away Friday, Aug. 10, 2018 at his home in Ogdensburg surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Macko, son of the late Martin and Maria (Gaba) Macko was born in Czechoslovakia Aug. 14, 1925. He came to the United States at the age of 10 and has been a longtime resident of Ogdensburg.
Mr. Macko was a United States Navy WW II Veteran having served on the USS South Dakota from 1943 to 1946. Following WW II, Mr. Macko graduated from David Rankin Technical College in St. Louis, MO and began working as a carpenter. He later retired from Schering-Plough in Lafayette where he was a treatment plant and utilities operator from 1971-88
Mr. Macko was a parishioner and member of the Holy Name Society at St. Thomas of Aquin RC Church in Ogdensburg as well as a member of Lt. Robert A. Madden VFW Post #10152 also of Ogdensburg.
Mr. Macko was predeceased by his parents; brother, John Macko, sister; Agatha Varga and granddaughter Michele Ando. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eleanor (Dunn) Macko, children; Carol Ando & her husband Jim of Ogdensburg and William Macko & June Robbins of Lafayette, grandchildren; Patricia (Ed) Muldoon, James (Jeanette) Ando, Jennifer Ando and Brittany Macko; great grandchildren, EJ & Megan Muldoon and Abigail, Alexa & Madeline Ando.
The family would like to thank the Compassionate Care Hospice for their caring service.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, at 9:30 a.m. from F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, One Main St. Franklin to St. Thomas of Aquin RC Church, Ogdensburg for a 10;00AM Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. VFW services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday.
