Theodore 'Ted' M. Stephens, Jr.
Theodore “Ted” M. Stephens, Jr., 84 years, of Huguenot, N.Y., passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014, at his home following a long and brave battle with cancer. Ted was born to the late Theodore M. and Pluma Stephens in Hamburg, N.J. He resided in Sussex County, N.J., for the better part of his life, moving to the Port Jervis, N.Y., area 25 years ago.
Ted graduated from Hamburg High School and completed his undergraduate studies in education at Dickinson College, Pa., and William Paterson University in New Jersey. He completed his graduate studies in Education at Montclair State Teachers College, Seton Hall University and Lehigh University. Ted was employed in public education for 25 years, holding positions both as a teacher and school superintendent in various school districts in New Jersey. Upon his retirement from public education, he was a part-time graduate studies administrator for the New School of Social Research, Middletown, N.Y., satellite campus. Ted was a lover of both antiques and woodworking. He was a master craftsman and later in life, he enjoyed the full-time endeavors of furniture restoration and the buying and selling of antiques. Ted was an ardent sports fan and remained true to the New York Giants and New York Knicks.
In addition to his parents, Ted was predeceased by 9 sisters, Beatrice Hessler, Caroline Corey, Gladys Trethaway, Helen Kisac, Lois Joustra, Marion Kimble, Mattie Runnals, Theodora Search and Virginia Stephens. Devoted father of Katherine Gomez and her life partner, Jeffrey Huff, Theodore R. Stephens and his wife, AnnMarie, and Jonathan Stephens all of Wantage Twp., N.J., Seth Stephens and his wife, Jean, of Hamburg, N.J., and Tom Stephens and his wife, Laurene of Honesdale, Pa., dear brother of Barbara Bott of Mine Hill, N.J., cherished by 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive their friends at F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, 1 Main Street, Franklin, N.J., on Wednesday, June 11, 2014, from 9 to 11 a.m. Funeral service will commence at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
