April 23 A juvenile, who had pled guilty on March 19 to third degree endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of fourth degree child abuse was adjudicated a juvenile delinquent by the court. The juvenile, age 18, of Glenwood, was sentenced to three 60-day terms in the Juvenile Detention Center and then he will remain on probation until age 19. He must also submit a DNA sample, undergo random drug testing, have no contact with the victim and pay $105 in court fines. During August 2008, in Vernon, the juvenile and several co-defendants provided marijuana and alcohol to a 6-year-old child, and encouraged the child to consume alcohol and smoke marijuana on multiple occasions. April 24 David W. Slate, 34, of Hopatcong, pled guilty to issuing a bad check, a third degree crime. Sentencing is anticipated for May 8. He admitted to issuing a check to a painting contractor knowing that the bank account the check was drawn on would not honor the check. Justin Brown, 27, of Franklin, was sentenced to four years probation. He pled guilty on Feb. 23 to resisting arrest and terroristic threat, both third degree crimes. Jason R. Grover, 20, of Branchville, was sentenced to three years probation, was ordered to serve 120 days in the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility and was given credit for four days served. He must submit to random drug monitoring, submit to a TASC evaluation and follow all recommendations, pay restitution of $1,335.99, pay total fines and penalties of $205 and submit a DNA sample at his expense. His bail was exonerated. He pled guilty on March 9 to aggravated assault, a crime of the third degree. On Dec. 27, 2008 in Lafayette Township, he got into a physical altercation with another person, hitting the victim twice in the face with a bottle. He admitted his actions to police in a taped confession. Gregory M. Gottshall, 21, of Newton was sentenced to three years probation, ordered to serve 90 days in the Sheriff’s Labor Assistance Program and was given credit for 71 days served. He must enroll in an inpatient treatment program and attend AA/NA three times per week. He must pay restitution in the amount of $770 joint and several with a co-defendant, pay total fines and penalties of $530 and submit a DNA sample at his expense. He pled guilty on Feb. 9 to three counts of burglary and one count of theft, all crimes of the third degree. On Dec. 1, 2008 in Newton, the defendant and a co-defendant burglarized two local businesses and parked vehicles, taking electronics, jewelry items and tools. Martin F. Larsen, 52, of Wantage, was sentenced to probation for a period of two years. As a condition of his probation, Larsen was ordered to serve 114 days in the Sussex County Jail with credit for the 113 days he previously served in lieu of bail. Larsen is to enroll in and successfully complete an intensive outpatient substance abuse program and to pay $205 in monetary penalties. He pled guilty on March 9 to resisting arrest, a third degree crime. He admitted that on Jan. 1, he prevented a law enforcement officer from effecting a lawful arrest. Timothy McNamara, 52, of Branchville was sentenced to 90 days in jail and three years probation. He must submit his DNA. He is required to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation. He must pay court costs, $3,849.05 in restitution and obtain employment. He pled guilty on Jan. 7 to fourth degree aggravated assault and a second offense Driving While Intoxicated. He admitted to driving while intoxicated on Sept. 24, 2006 in Andover Township and causing an accident involving another vehicle; the driver sustaining 18 stitches to his leg and the front seat passenger sustaining bruises to the head, arms and legs. April 27 Harry Martyn, 46, of Easton, Pa., pled guilty to receiving stolen property, a third degree crime. Sentencing is anticipated for June, 2009. Terry Back, 47, of Hopatcong, entered a guilty plea to an accusation charging him with third degree aggravated assault. Back admitted to the court that on or about Dec. 3, 2008, he had assaulted an adult female during a domestic dispute. Back is scheduled to be sentenced on June 12.
