Gypsy moth spraying set to begin in Vernon Township

VERNON — Vernon Township’s gypsy moth control program, in cooperation with the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, was scheduled to begin earlier this week — on or about May 12 — and run through June 12 or until it’s completed. Spraying times are scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 a.m.; 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and possibly in the evenings from 5 to 8 p.m., in the affected areas. Downstown Aerocrop Service of Vineland has been awarded the contract to apply Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki from aircraft to areas infested with gypsy moth larvae. Upon request, the pesticide applicator or applicator business will provide residents with notification 12 hours prior to the application, except for quarantine and disease vector control only, when conditions necessitate pesticide applications sooner than that time.
