Hardyston Day is chock-full of activities
Hardyston - A parade honoring the 50th anniversary of Hardyston Township School will be held from 11 a.m. to noon as part of the Hardyston Day festivities on Saturday, June 13. The parade begins at the Franklin Glass parking lot and ends at the Hardyston Town Park. A featured participant will be Mrs. Drew, the oldest living Hardyston school teacher, who is 95. Other past and current teachers will also join the parade, along with State Police on horseback, police, fire, first aid squad and town council members as well as students from a variety of organizations. This culminates a year of activities marking the 50th anniversary, including a 5K Run, the creation of a cookbook, a sock hop and a teacher alumni day. The U.S. Postal Service will have an on-site post office selling a one-day historical collectible cancellation using specially designed postcards. During Hardyston Day, the Hardyston Consolidated Schools 50th Anniversary Committee will be selling 50th anniversary commemorative items including Hardyston sweatshirts, T-shirts and decorative afghans as well as the cookbooks. Hardyston Day includes a raft of activities for the whole family. Highlights of the day include: Sussex County Official Town Crier, Bill Joseph and student town crier contest winners. Flag Raising led by Boy Scout Troop 187 National Anthem by eighth-grader Kevin Naser A “Penny Candy Shoppe” just like 50 years ago. Children can choose individual candies for one cent each. Baseball cards from the 1980s will also be sold. U.S. Postal Service on-site post office selling a one-day historical collectible cancellation using specially designed postcards. Hardyston’s young royalty, Miss, Little Mr. and Little Miss Hardyston, will be selected during a pageant starting at 12:30 at Wheatsworth Field.
