High Point releases 2009 literary magazine

Wantage — Students gathered in the library of High Point High School brought together by a shared love and appreciation of art, music and the written word on Friday, June 5 when the High Point literary magazine staff released the 2009 edition of “Calliope.” The literary magazine is named for Greek mythological muse of eloquence and epic or heroic poetry. This year’s edition marks the 12th volume of the magazine and is dedicated to two of High Point’s teachers, Lance and Diane Sorchick, who are retiring this year. Co-editors Alex Sajac and Colin Fricke opened the celebratory open mic night and coffeehouse by reading their letters to readers. “In the morning of your thoughts, she comes to you. Calliope: the early wake-up call, the muse, the reason for ever turning gears of creative visions.” Those were the words read by Alex Sajac. His audience of students included some whose original poetry is published in the newest edition of the magazine. Also on hand at the open mic party were faculty, staff, students and alumni.
