Kids Day focuses on keeping children safe

VERNON - On Saturday, May 15, chiropractic offices worldwide will be participating in Kids Day America. This is a special day dedicated to children's health, safety and environmental awareness in the community. Drs. Alison and Stephanie Roy, of Roy Family Chiropractic, 529 Route 515. Vernon will be sponsoring this event along with the Vernon P.A.L. and it will be held locally at the Vernon P.A.L. building from 1- 4 p.m. They plan to provide essential information to all attendees on crime prevention, child safety and environmental issues. The Vernon Police Department will provide free fingerprinting to all children who attend. Dr. John Hoffer will be on hand to check for distinguishable dental markings, and the Vernon Fire Department plans to support the event by providing fire safety tips, window tot finder stickers, and a fire engine. The Vernon Police Department's crime dog "McGruff" will be on hand as well. Other participants in the event will be Church Street Photo who will be donating head-shot photos for the I.D. Cards. Erin Palinski, a local nutritionist who has special training in pediatric nutrition, will provide helpful nutritional tips. A Vernon D.A.R.E. officer will be providing information on keeping kids off drugs. To add the festivities, there will be free face painting, karate demonstrations, and a magician will teach the children magic tricks and do a magic show. During the afternoon, Roy Family Chiropractic will perform free spinal exams and scoliosis screenings and will distribute information on disease prevention and health promotion. They will also provide free giveaways, along with prize drawings every half-hour. The grand prizes include a $50 savings bond from a local bank and girl's and boy's bikes donated by Franklin WalMart. The event will benefit the Vernon Police Athletic League to spotlight their involvement in providing recreational programs for the children of Vernon in a safe, drug-free environment. Roy Family Chiropractic is a family wellness-based practice dedicated to educating the community about preventive spinal health care. Alison Roy said "This event has been instrumental around the world to bring health issues to people and their families, therefore, Stephanie and I thought it was very important to have this event in Vernon."
