Six students were awarded scholarships from the Coach Rick Fincken Memorial Scholarship fund in partnership with Pass It Along.

The recipients are Madison Tallamy, Matthew Tunnell and Brendan Percey, all of High Point Regional High School; Abigail Whritenour and Gregory Smith, both of Hopatcong High School; and Jack Edward Schmick of Sussex County Technical School.

The scholarship fund was established in 2021 to honor the life and legacy of Fincken, a former teacher, mentor and boys basketball coach at Hopatcong High School. He devoted his life to teaching, coaching and helping students succeed and thrive in sports and in life.

Scholarships are open to all Sussex County high school seniors who intend to enroll in a two- or four-year college or trade school. Recipients must demonstrate integrity, respect, inclusion, generosity, civic involvement and a desire to help others succeed.

The main fundraiser for the scholarships is the annual Coach Rick Fincken Memorial Scholarship Classic, which will be held Aug. 5 at Farmstead Golf & Country Club in Lafayette.
