Hamburg police return to full staff levels
HAMBURG — The Hamburg Police Department is back at full operational staff for the first time since 2012 thanks to the hiring of two new officers and the impending return of two veterans.
New officers Lawrence Barcza and Fred Moses were hired at Monday’s Borough Council meeting after an executive-session panel interview.
“The borough has been trying to get the department back up to eight officers,” Mayor Paul Marino said. “Now we’re able to do that by adding officers with 16 years of combined experience.”
Marino also noted one of the officers has experience as a sergeant in his previous agency.
“We’ll be up to our full complement starting the week of Aug. 18,” Civilian Police Director Wayne Yahm said.
In addition to getting the new officers on the road, two veteran officers will return from medical leave in the ensuing weeks.
