Ogdensburg plans hearing to amend police regulations

OGDENSBURG — The Ogdensburg Borough Council will host a public hearing on Monday on an ordinance to ammend police regulations.
The council unanimously introduced the ordinance on Monday, Aug. 13. Councilmen David Astor and Robert Gundermen were absent.
The council also unanimously passed a resolution authorizing Ogdensburg to participate in the N.J. Health Benefits Program.
Mayor Rachel Slater said they just ordered the fire house and Heater's Pond signs for $1,250. She added they will look like the Ogdensburg entry and Sterling Hill Mine signs, because they are made by the same company. In addition, she gave information to Councilman Peter Opilla to determine both size and budget for Ogdensburg banners.
Councilman Michael Nardini said they were going to interview four candidates for the new DPW/Water Department Employee position, and around 12 candidates had applied.
Slater said she contacted the borough engineer because Heater's Pond road needs to be paved, and the guard rail needs to be replaced.
Astor said, they will pass an ordinance regarding no trespassing in order to include the number on a “No Trespassing” sign at Heater's Pond.
Slater confirmed Elizabethtown Gas sent letters to all four developments saying they are doing temporary repairs to the yards and roads after digging. Once they have finished, she said, Elizabethtown Gas will reseed, put down hay, and fix any necessary pavements. Also, she continued, they are taking pictures of every house before beginning work, so that when they are finished, properties will look as close as possible to what was before.
Astor confirmed the engineer said having water pipes under the gas main is fine.
Astor also said he will contact the borough engineer regarding Predmore Street, because contractors need to repair it. He also said DPW Supervisor Chris Ross said the project was avoided after the 2000 flood. Astor continued, the engineer believes this is what needs to be done, and they need to stop putting on band-aids.
The DPW, Astor informed, is trying to catch up cleaning the catch basins, however, they are behind as a result of: Elizabethtown Gas, the weather, Edison Road being closed, and vacations. He also said Ross is in contact with Sparta and Hardyston in order to remove everything from the inside.
Astor continued, Edison Road was closed a little while due to last week's storm; and it is now up and running.
Councilman Anthony Nasisi said, the purchase order requests for the Borough Hall hot water heater and historical building steam boiler are being written; and he is waiting for a third Borough Hall roof bid.
