Power team brings inspirational message
FRANKLIN — Todd Keene and the Power Team, a Christian-based group, recently brought a message of hope and faith to Chrisitan Fellowship Church in Franklin.
Keene, the president of the Power Team, has been traveling for more than 28 years with the Power Team. Keene played college, and professional football for the Indianapolis Colts.
The Power Team consists of professional bodybuilders, former NFL players, one world record holder in weightlifting, and family men.
Appearing Power Team members included Willie "Freight Train" Raines, Andy Gavin, Matt "Big Biscuit" Reed, along with Keene. The team has been in existent for 30 years and has traveled to 40 different countries and had been feature on every major television network.
The men spread the Gospel in unordinary ways by breaking bricks, bending steel rods with their mouths, bench pressing logs while surrounded by fire, bending frying pans, and blowing up hot water bottles till they burst.
“So many people are put off by church because of bad things that happen to them growing up and receiving negative messages about church," Gavin said. "But when they hear we break bricks, blow up hot water bottles, break bats over our backs, and exhibit such power and strength, this can possibly encourage them to come to church.”
Raines said when the team visits schools, it presents a motivational assembly.
“We encourage them to go after their dreams, never give up, teach them that they have worth and to make good choices in their lives," he said. "The Power Team uses their own personal stories and how their faith has helped them make positive changes in their lives."
At the assemblies, Keene and the Power Team addressed the topics of suicide, misuse of prescription drugs, alcohol and drug use, anti-bullying, teenage pregnancy and other challenges = teenagers face.
“It is so important to invest in the next generation,” Raines said.
