Primary election results

SUSSEX COUNTY — According to unofficial results released Tuesday night, Republican voters chose Gail Phoebus and Dennis Mudrick to represent the GOP in the race for Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Democratic voters chose Jim Tighe and Susan Williams, who ran unopposed.

Mudrick narrowly beat Newton councilwoman Helen LeFrois, who was Phoebus' running mate, by a little more than three percentage points.

The general election for the two Freeholder seats will be held in November.

In other local primaries: Franklin Borough

Gilbert Snyder and Frederick Babcock, both Republicans, won their party's nod to run for the two three-year terms on the Franklin Borough Council.

Hamburg Borough In an uncontested race, Mark Sena and Robert Garrett, Republicans, were chosen to represent their party in November when two three-year terms open up on the Hamburg Borough Council.

Hardyston Township In an uncontested race, Carl Miller was elected to run for a three-year term on the Hardyston Township Council.

Lafayette Township In an uncontested race, John D'Angeli was elected to run for a three-year term on the Lafayette Township Committee.

Ogdensburg Borough In an uncontested race, David Astor and George Hutnick were elected to run for three-year terms on the Ogdensburg Borough council.

Statewide elections Republican Joe Kyrillos won the GOP primary handily with 77 percent of the votes statewide.

Republican Scott Garret won the GOP primary for the 5th Congressional District while Adam Gussen won the Democratic primary.

Gussen and Garret will face off in a November general election.

Republican presidential primary

Sussex County voters gave Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney 72 percent of the vote.

Ron Paul came in second with 13 percent of the vote while Rick Santorum received 8 and Newt Gingrich 6 percent.

The presidential general election will be held in November.
