Sowden takes over as Franklin mayor

Franklin Borough installed its new mayor, councilmen and fire officials on Jan. 1.
John M. Sowden IV was sworn in as mayor during.
Sowden thanked his family, friends and everyone in attendance for support.
He outlined three major areas he would like to concentrate on during his 4-year term. This included developing a section of Franklin that has historical value, work with the planning board to make sure “what we do here in Franklin makes sense,” and review department by department to “take fresh approaches to business.”
Sowden also recognzied Christina Sanchez and Judy Williams, both recently recognized with hometown hero awards.
“Both have a great love for their town," Sowden said.
Councilman John Postas was elected as a council president.
Postas congratulated Sowden and said he looks “forward to working toward a common goal of capitalizing on our history.” Postas also publicly thanked Sanchez and Williams for their efforts.
“They brought us a nice spark and help create a sense of community,” he said.
State Sen. Steve Oroho administered the Oath of Office to Councilman Stephen M. Skellenger for his 3-year term as Franklin Borough Councilman.
Also new to the Franklin Borough council is Concetto Formica. Elected to a 3-year term, Formica thanked his family and all those that have supported him.
Acting Municipal Clerk Darlene Tremont administered the oath of office to Khyle Conklin, the new Chief of the Franklin Fire Department. Conklin then called the Line Officers and Administrative Officers up to be sworn in.
