Sparta UNICO awards 7 scholarships

Sparta UNICO awarded seven scholarships to outstanding high school students during a ceremony July 17.
The scholarships totaling $7,500.
For more than 25 years, Sparta UNICO has provided scholarships to high school graduates who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, leadership and community involvement.
The Robert Ambrosino Memorial Scholarships were presented to three students, with each award reflecting a different aspect of Ambrosino’s passions. He was a charter member of Sparta UNICO with his father, Gerry, in 1998.
• Athletics Scholarship: Tyler Heykoop
Heykoop, a graduate of Vernon Township High School, was awarded the Robert Ambrosino Memorial Athletics Scholarship. In the fall, he will attend the University of Vermont Honors College, where he plans to study biochemistry with a minor in economics and finance.
• Academic Scholarship: Zack Mountain
Mountain, a graduate of Vernon Township High School, was awarded the Robert Ambrosino Memorial Academic Scholarship. This fall, he will attend Penn State University, where he plans to study chemical engineering.
• Building Construction Scholarship: Janeisha Dureny
Dureny, a graduate of High Point Regional High School, was awarded the Robert Ambrosino Memorial Building Construction Scholarship. In the fall, she will attend Alfred State College, where she will major in building construction.
• Eliot Griner, a graduate of Sussex County Technical School, was awarded a Sparta UNICO scholarship to study at Purdue University. He will be major in chemical engineering.
• Sara Coscia, a graduate of Sussex County Technical School, will attend Dickinson College, where she will major in art conservation and restoration.
• Kyleigh Mongon, a graduate of Sparta High School, will attend Quinnipiac University. She will major in health sciences as part of the Physician Assistant program.
• Jack Edward Schmick, a graduate of Sussex County Technical School, will attend Stockton University to major in psychology.
The scholarship selection process considered the students’ academic performance, extracurricular activities and personal essays.
