The first day of November marked the Grand Opening of Flowers in the Attic and Felicia's Boutique, a combo store that features exquisite gifts and trendy clothing.
A swift breeze at the ribbon cutting signified the positive winds of change for the once dilapidated section of Lafayette formerly known as Lafayette Village, Owner Phyllis Flanagan cut a bright red ribbon to mark the stores' official arrival at the new Shoppes at Lafayette and underscore the area's revitalization.
“It's exciting to be opening yet another great business here at the Shoppes at Lafayette," said Tammie Horsefield, president of the Sussex CountyChamber of Commerce. "And we're looking forward to a bright future for Felicia's Boutique and Flowers in the Attic as well as all of the stores that are coming in here.”
Flowers in the Attic sells gifts, home decor, clothing, and fashion accessories. Flanagan combined this, her original store, with Felicia's Boutique within the same building. Felicia's features fashion-forward clothing, accessories and shoes.
“People like that everything is under one roof,” she said. “We carry a lot of brand names plus some they may not have heard of and can discover.”
The most popular brand in Felicia's Boutique is the Joseph Ribkoff line of clothing and Brighton Jewelry. Popular brands the Flowers in the Attic section include Melissa & Doug toys, Michel Designs, Yankee Candle and Stonewall Kitchen.
Flanagan said that it was her customers that prompted her move to Lafayette from her former location in Upper Lake Plaza in Sparta.
“They kept on asking me if I was moving to 'the Village' (the former name for The Shoppes at Lafayette,” she said. “I said 'What Village?' and at their encouragement came and checked out what they had done here. It was so beautiful, the parking was great and I immediately fell in love with the atmosphere. That night, I told my husband we were moving.”
She had to close for a short period of time to move, but as soon as she opened, thanks to social media and her very loyal customers, Flowers in the Attic and Felicia's Boutique were booming at their new home.
“This is another great business to fill out the Shoppes at Lafayette and the revitalization here," Lafayette Mayor Rick Hughes said. “This shop and the others within this area have so much to offer.”
The mayor said that the town is in the process of building sidewalks to connect the various areas of Lafayette to make it easier for people to get from one to another.
Said Patti Singer Village Manager/Marketing & Events,
“The arrival of Felicia's Boutique and Flowers in the Attic here is great. The store combination brings a great addition to the Village,” said Patti Singer, village manager/marketing & events.
Singer said that Arley Farms, which is based in Green Township, will open a store featuring produce, pies, and meals around Nov. 17 and a new store called Bullet Boots will be coming in around December 21st. Additionally, the non-profit Pass It Along will be relocating its offices to The Shoppes at Lafayette.
“We are going to be hopping for the holiday shopping season,” Singer said.
Flanagan echoed her sentiments.
”Our stores and all of the shops here have a lot of amazing gifts for the holidays. It's a one-stop-shop with plenty of parking, a lot of beauty and friendly owners,” she said.
