Wallkill Valley Regional High School sophomore artist Sammy Barbato won a merit award for a charcoal portrait, “Stardust,” at the 37th annual Emerging Artist Exhibit sponsored by the Art Administrators of New Jersey.
He was one of four merit award winners who received a medal, certificate and $75 check.
The exhibition in the James Howe Gallery of Kean University showcased artwork by 33 students from 24 high schools in the state.
Works were judged by Kean art faculty.
Award recipients are eligible to compete for a Governor’s Award.
