Wallkill Valley FBLA holds Super Night

The Wallkill Valley Regional High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America hosted Super Night 2015 for the benefit of the March of Dimes on Nov. 14, from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning in the high school gymnasium with 275 students participating.

Activities during this 10-hour lock-in, included a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, volleyball tournament, dodgeball tournament, movie night, and a Jell-O eating contest. Trophies and medals were awarded for each tournament: 3-on-3 basketball — first place: Matt Christmas, Bryce Falk, Andrew Alum; 2nd place — Garret Koch, Mason White, Derek Snyder; 3rd place, Patrick Ryan, Jake DeAnda, Ben Muller; volleyball: first place — Ryan Higgins, Jay McWilliams, Brad Worthington, Marko Badovic, Richard Stecher, Alex Thompson, Andrew Alum, Kyle Mowles; second place, Mr. Hamil, Fahad Khan, Gabe Hunnicut, Eric Ganz, Danny Bolio, Dylan Harlos, Bryce Falk, Justin Decker; third place, Dan Bacon, Ryan Kostelnik, Josh Abrahams, Richie Coltenback, Zachary Conklin, Tyler Small, Jade Deaver; dodgeball: first place — Ryan Higgins, Jay McWilliams, Richard Stecher, Marko Bakovic, Kyle Mowles, Alex Thompson; 2nd place, Logan McHose, Peter Russo, Anthony Vililia, Anthony Russo, Michael Torres, Zane Crum; third place, Fiona Blake, Weezy Nazaire, Legend Hicks, Caitlyn Mizski, Jada Martin, Morgan Carr; and Jell-O eating contest, Flor Romero.

In order to participate in the event, students were required to raise a minimum of $50 for the March of Dimes. Prizes were awarded to the top fundraising students: first place, Logan McHose; second place, Patrick Ryan; and 3rd place, Jonathan Sienkiewicz.

Wallkill Valley FBLA’s community service vice presidents Kayla Bifano and Connor Mendes did an outstanding job in planning the event, organizing activities, and securing food and drinks from the local community. They were assisted by the Super Night Committee. The theme this year was “Saturday Night Live … the Decades.”

A school assembly was held on Nov. 4, which outlined the details of the event. Art DiBenedetto, the 2015 Skylands March for Babies Co-Chairman and Superintendent of Vernon schools, outlined the March of Dimes efforts regarding premature birth.

Scott Hoffman, his wife Jill, and their two 7-year-old sons currently serve as the Northern Region March of Dimes Ambassador Family. Hoffman presented an emotional, eye-opening video of their experience of having twins born prematurely, the care provided for the boys, and the emotional homecoming after months in the hospital.
