family-run Sussex County practice NEWTON — Dr. Geeta Sehgal, a popular obstetrician/gynecologist at Women’s Health Care Associates for the last four years, will take over the practice on March 26. Dr. Sehgal replaces Dr. Joanne Liegner, a well-known Sussex County ob/gyn who has practiced in the area since 1985. Liegner had taken over the practice from her father, who ran it since 1956. “She is a wonderful practitioner,” Dr. Liegner said of Dr. Sehgal. “I’m glad my patients will have a good doctor like her taking over.” Sehgal, who lives in Newton with her family, has been the vice chief of Newton Memorial Hospital’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. During her residency years, she was the chief resident of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Saint Vincent’s Catholic Medical Centers of New York, Staten Island. “The opportunity to take over Dr. Liegner’s practice at Womencare Gynecology is very exciting for me,” Dr. Seghal said. “Dr. Joanne Liegner has been a pillar in the community and at Newton Memorial Hospital. Everyone in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology are sad to see her retire. She will definitely be missed.” Sehgal said her new practice will continue to offer the full range of women-based services to patients, such as routine gynecological care, specialized care for adolescents, menopausal care and gynecological surgery, including endometrial ablation and other minimally invasive procedures. “In addition to gynecological services, I also will be offering obstetrical services for all phases of pregnancy,” Sehgal added. “It’s a real joy to be able to follow a patient from the moment she becomes pregnant and well after her delivery. I am looking forward to building a practice that offers a lifetime of quality care to the women of our community.”
