Shaheem Hill, 28, of Hamburg pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree robbery in Orange County (N.Y.) Court, District Attorney David Hoovler said Wednesday, Feb. 5.

Under a plea agreement, the prosecutor will recommend that Hill be sentenced to nine years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision when he is sentenced April 16.

According to documents filed and statements made in court, Hill and a co-defendant approached a person at 3:45 a.m. Dec. 30, 2023, on Ball Street in Port Jervis, N.Y.; displayed handguns; and forcibly stole property from that person. The property included a laptop, jewelry and a wallet.

After a police investigation, the proceeds of the robbery were recovered at the co-defendant’s home in New Jersey.

At the plea proceedings, Hill admitted to forcibly stealing property from the victim and displaying what appeared to be a firearm during the robbery.

The co-defendant previously pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing.

Hoovler thanked the City of Port Jervis Police Department as well as the Newton Police Department and Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office for their assistance during the investigation.

“Gun crimes beget violence and we must hold to account those responsible for illegally possessing and wielding firearms,” he said. “We will not cease in our pursuit of violent criminals who commit violent crimes, particularly those that involve the illegal possession and use of guns.

“I appreciate the assistance of law enforcement agencies across state lines that helped ensure these perpetrators were held responsible for their actions.”
