Captains called good motivators
SUSSEX. Seniors Ashley Boffa and Averie Olinger lead the High Point field hockey team.
Seniors Ashley Boffa and Averie Olinger led the High Point Regional High School field hockey team as captains this fall.
They were chosen by their teammates.
“They both worked hard to establish themselves as leaders by organizing and running the summer practices as well as taking on leadership roles during pre-season,” head coach Kelly Reynolds said.
“They are both very good liaisons between the team and the coaches and they carry themselves very well on the field.
The Wildcats finished 6-12-1 overall and were 3-3 and in a tie for second place in the Colonial Division of the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference.
Boffa made four goals and two assists and Olinger had two assists during the season.
Both improved their skills this year, Reynolds said in mid-October. “Both of them have improved their drives, stick work and passing game. Averie has been working hard on her lifts as well.’’
They helped their teammates improve as well, she said.
“They are very good motivators and they set a good example every day. They are both willing to jump in and help our younger athletes when working on the fundamentals. They have also been doing some after hockey team activities to help establish relationships as a team.’’
Other contributing players were sophomore Madison Cary, junior Chloe Kinney and freshman Meadow Davis, the coach said.
Cary made nine goals and one assist; Kinney had four goals and four assists; and Davis made three goals and six assists during the season.
“Our team is rather young but they are tenacious and resilient,” Reynolds said at mid-season. “The girls are all working hard to come together as a team and they are improving with each game that they play. Our seniors (Boffa, Olinger and Paige Farber) have been wonderful leaders in helping to make this happen.’’
