McNeir shoots personal best
FRANKLIN Golfer Bill McNeir, a 2009 graduate of Wallkill Valley Regional High School, who has just completed his junior year at Centenary College in Hackettstown, finished up his spring semester by shooting his personal best 75 at the Cyclone Invitational on April 5 to lead the Cyclones to a team total program record 308 in a win against Farmingdale State and Saint Josephs University of Long Island. With the win, he finished third individually out of 25 golfers, became the Centenary Cyclone Player of the Week, and the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Golfer of the Week on April 10. McNeir then played in the Colonial States Athletic Conference Championship on April 25 and 26, held in Wilmington, Del. His team finished third out of nine teams. Individually, McNeir shot a combined score of 164 (84, 80) at the championship, tying for 11th place out of 50 golfers, earning him a spot on the CSAC All-Conference Team. Following the tournament, the Conference named him to the All-Sportsmanship Team, the second time he has earned the award and the CSAC All-Academic team for the third straight year. He was recently named one of six Spring Scholar Athletes for the spring season at Centenary College. He earned his third-consecutive spring recognition this year after being named the Male Scholar Athlete of the Year last season. According to Head Coach Josh Huber, Billy is a student-athlete who epitomizes the term in every way possible. He is a young man who treats every assignment/project in the classroom as his number one priority. As a junior history education major and special education minor, he received a 4 GPA in both the Fall and Spring semesters and has a cumulative GPA of a 3.92." McNeir volunteers for the campus community as well participating in clubs and activities. In early February, he founded and became president of the Commuter Council, where he has done numerous activities to help out commuter students get more involved with clubs and organizations. In April, he was named to the Whos Who Among Students in Universities and Colleges; he received the Douglas Wolfe Turrell Community Service Award and was named to the National History Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta, to represent Centenary College.
