VERNON The Vernon Township School District held five book clubs over the summer months to prevent summer loss, keep children academically engaged in the summer and promote a love of reading. Student participants entering kindergarten and first grade in September proudly display their super hero masks created in celebration of their reading and discussion of 'Dex: The Heart of a Hero' and 'Calvin Can’t Fly: The Story of a Bookworm Birdie. Joining the kids, from left: Kristina Krops, Walnut Ridge Primary School reading specialist, and Jen Sousa, first grade teacher.
