Wantage - The dog has always been considered mans best friend, but over the years animal lovers have added a variety of domestic animals to serve as their companions, taking as much care of them as they would any child - including regular visits to the doctor. Now area residents have another option when it comes to where to bring their precious companions with the opening of the new Wantage Veterinary Hospital. Located just north of the A&P shopping plaza on Route 23 in Wantage, the new facility is owned and operated by Dr. Karen Bullock and is a full-service veterinary hospital with state-of-the art equipment and surgery area. Bullock has been working as a veterinarian in Sussex County for the past ten years and opened her new practice on June 8. “Although I’m not from Sussex County, I knew that I wanted to have my practice here so that I could have the small town, one-on-one feeling but also offer a high-tech cutting edge service. I think that I have managed to do that,” said Bullock. After settling on a former auto garage as the future home of her hospital, Bullock drew on the talents of her husband, Mike, who designed and managed the project from inception to completion. The building was subsequently nominated for “best renovation” in Wantage in a competition which will take place later this year. The Wantage Veterinary Hospital offers a full lab and surgery facility catering to companion animals, including cats, dogs, snakes, reptiles, small mammals and birds. “We are the only practice in Sussex County with digital X-ray, and we are also internally completely paperless, which means there is much less chance of information being lost or misplaced,” said Bullock. Bullock is originally from South Jersey. She now lives in Culver Lake in the Branchville area with her husband and four-year-old daughter. The hours of business are: Monday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. For more information, call 973-875-PAWS.
