Hardyston schools have many successes

As superintendent of Hardyston schools, I would like to address the claims made in the recent letter from Mayor Frank Cicerale.

Our district consistently ranks among the highest in Sussex County for academic performance. Since COVID, Hardyston students have made exceptional progress in both English and mathematics.

Chronic absenteeism is a national issue, but Hardyston’s absenteeism rate decreased by 6% last year - one of the fastest drops in the county. This reflects the dedication of our staff and families to keep students engaged.

The claim of high staff turnover is also misleading. When staff leave for better opportunities, including out-of-state moves, it’s a positive reflection of their professional growth.

We have an exceptional team of educators committed to our students’ success and we should be celebrating them.

Hardyston schools are home to amazing students, dedicated staff and supportive parents.

Instead of spreading division for political purposes, we should be celebrating our many successes.

We look forward to continuing to build on our achievements together.

    Mike Ryder,

    Hardyston Township Schools superintendent
