My name is Liam DeRenzo. I live in Franklin and I am a Boy Scout in Troop 90.
I have earned many merit badges and I have achieved the rank of star.
In Boy Scouts, you learn many useful skills. You have a Scout book and that book has many requirements that teach you how to be a Boy Scout.
It also has merit badge requirements. One important merit badge that I am currently working on is communications. This merit badge is teaching me about all the different ways of communication.
One includes writing this letter to the editor.
I am also working on the cooking merit badge. I had to cook nine different meals on my own.
During summer camp, I learned how to save people in the water using several different rescues.
I also completed the camping merit badge. One of the requirements was to camp overnight, including a four-mile hike. While on the hike, our group got lost. We stayed together and decided to return to camp because it wasn’t safe to be in a place that we didn’t know.
All of these skills I can use later on in life.
The best thing about Boy Scouts is the camping trips that you go on and the friends you make along your scouting journey.
One of the most memorable places we visited was Niagara Falls. We were there for three days and saw lots of things.
My favorite trip that we do yearly is the bike hike. I like it because we do a bike ride that is about 20 miles.
Some other trips that I have enjoyed are a team-building trip, go-kart racing, canoe trips, whitewater rafting, and summer camp.
I have made special bonds with my friends on all of these trips.
