Fire pits are one of Athenia’s biggest sellers, offering both gas and wood-burning options. Their pros know fire pits – and how to cook up some great meals and snacks over them. Here are some of their favorite fire pit-friendly dessert recipes – perfect for making sweet summer memories.

Apple Pie Packets

A fire pit twist on the most classic American dessert.

First, add two diced apples, 2 teaspoons of lemon juice, 2 teaspoons of cornstarch, 2 tablespoons white sugar, one-fourth cup of packed brown sugar, one-and-one-half teaspoons of cinnamon and 1 tablespoon of butter to a bowl. Mix until fully incorporated and set aside.

Then, start working on the apple pie topping by adding one-fourth cup of oats, one-fourth cup of flour, one-fourth cup of packed brown sugar and one-and-one-half teaspoons of cinnamon to a bowl. Mix until combined and then use two forks to mix one-fourth cup of cold butter into the topping.

Split the apple mixture between two large rectangular pieces of tinfoil, then sprinkle the topping over the apples. Tightly seal the packets with another piece of foil, then place the packets over a campfire for about 8-12 minutes, or until the apples have softened and the topping is crispy.

Open the foil packet carefully and allow it to cool for 10 minutes. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and enjoy!

Don’t like apples? Swap them out for peaches, mixed berries, or cherries to make a campfire cobbler!

Fire Pit Eclairs

These sweet treats are the perfect elevated dessert to cap off any barbeque or pool day.

First, prep skewers or sticks by wrapping one end in foil. Wrap a piece of refrigerated crescent roll dough around the sticks, making sure to pinch one end of the dough together to seal the éclair.

Cook the dough over the campfire, rotating frequently until golden brown (about 5-7 minutes). Put chocolate pudding in a resealable plastic bag and cut a small amount off of one corner to create a piping bag. Pipe the filling into each shell and top with frosting and whipped cream.

Pull-Apart Monkey Bread

This soft dessert is another simple and sharable snack that can be made directly over the grate of a fire pit.

Begin by combining cinnamon and sugar to create the sweet coating for the monkey bread. Use refrigerated biscuit dough and cut each biscuit into quarters. Roll the biscuit pieces in the cinnamon sugar and place them on a sheet of foil coated in nonstick cooking spray.

Cut butter into small pieces and disperse around the dough. Sprinkle the dough with brown sugar and tightly seal the packet with another piece of prepared foil. Cook the packet directly on the fire pit grill for about 20 minutes, or until the bread is cooked through.

Carefully unwrap the foil packets and enjoy this sweet, easily shareable treat!
